How?

Since December 2001, Road in involved in the IST-LoVEUS (Location Aware Visually Enhanced Ubiquitous Services) project, which is co-financed by the European Union and has a duration of 30 months. The project's budget is 5,316,325 EURO.

The following companies participate in the project: Intracom S.A., OgilvyInteractive S.A., Vodafone-Panfon Greece S.A. (Greece), Motorola Ltd (U. K.), Oy Arbonaut (Finland), Fraunhofer IGD (Germany) and the UCL University (Belgium).




LoVEUs:

This is a project aspiring to introduce innovation in the way European Citizens will access, through their 3rd generation mobile phones, "dynamic" maps incorporating animation, sound, advertisements and information according to the user's preferences and location at any given moment.

ROAD provides the digital content of this service. More specifically, we provide digital backgrounds in vector format for a part of Athens that includes road axes and blocks as well as places of interest with detailed information for each. We also provide a digital database with audiovisual information (photographs, video, audio, 3Dl images) for monuments of special cultural interest.

Although a country relying on tourism, with millions of visitors each year from every corner of the planet, Greece was essentially an uncharted country as no precise maps or up to date travel guides providing objective information were commercially available to Greek and foreign travellers.

The creation of a map requires specialised and technologically advanced equipment as well as specialised knowledge, but the most important element of map creation is exhaustive onsite research.
